Welcome

The China-U.S. Center for Environmental Remediation and Sustainable Development is dedicated to developing the cutting-edge, practical technology and policies thatChinaand theUnited Statesmust have to support both economic growth and environmental protection in the 21st Century. The center, a partnership between academia, industry, and government sprang from a grassroots collaboration between leading environmental scientists at Nankai University inTianjin, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science in Beijing, andRiceUniversityinHouston. The center’s research focus includes environmental remediation; drinking water treatment; groundwater preservation, cleanup and modeling; air pollution control, prevention and modeling; and environmental policy, law and regulation.

Initially, the Center will focus the effort in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), the center of Binhai New Area of Tianjin (BNAT) – officially designated the “New Engine of Growth” in China.  While manyU.S.companies will find great opportunities to develop new markets in this area, they will also face greater environmental challenges to achieve sustainable development.  The Center has established a strong working relationship with TEDA, and can play a major role in assistingU.S.companies to meet the environmental challenges.  A more detailed organization and operation plan are available.
